No Matter Where

No matter where I reside, whether in the city or the burbs, I am appalled by McDonald's. I am appalled by the way corporations in this country poison consumers, young and old, and have the nerve to label their junk with health claims!

Read New York Time columnist Mark Bittman's account of McDonald's latest "wholesome" offering and see what set me off!

  1. Although I do agree with you regarding McDonald's not being a healthy choice by any means, we do have to analyze the nutritional facts a bit further.

McD's oatmeal is 290 calories 4 grams of total fat; 1.5 gram of saturated fat

    versus their comparison of the
McD's cheeseburger which is 300 calories 12 grams of total fat; 6 grams of saturated fat

Snickers bar is 266 calories, 11 grams of total fat, 4 grams of saturated fat.

if you just look at calories you can make the statement that the oatmeal may be equivalent or worse than their comparison, but if we look at total fat and saturated fats the oatmeal is a far better choice.

I just had to comment b/c my spend so much time teaching my patients about looking past just calories when making food choices.

  2. Betty thank you for your comment :) I totally agree with you, calories are not the only measurement. What upsets me is that the ingredients they use are awful as well. When it comes to oatmeal you would hope they could just stick to the good stuff! As the article points out they are by no means the only ones, Quakers also manages to transform a basically good food into junk!
