Staying Focused and Letting Go

As many of you already know I've spent the last week completely focused on the task of ridding my kids and house of lice. The process has been unbelievably time consuming. (Needless to point out that if we were still living in an apartment the cleaning process would have been a tad more manageable than a four bedroom house). Anyway, the end result is that the lice problem seems to be under control but everything else fell off the to do list.

For example, grocery shopping. Hubbie came home last night opened the cupboard and the fridge and exclaimed "there is nothing in here!" That's right honey when you're in battle there is no time for shopping.

No shopping also means no ingredients to cook with, that means eating more take-out which means I had to radically lower my nutritional standards for my kids. McDonald's, school lunch, chicken nuggets. cookies for snack, you name it we had it this week. But truth be told who feels like cooking around lice! Not I!

Keeping up with due dates. Not an option, when you're checking for lice, time flies by! Result, I'm now going to pay late fees for the horrible kid movies we rented from Blockbuster last Friday. Not only was I subjected to this ****, now I have to pay extra for the privilege!

Extra homework. Out the door, it was all I could do to get the kids to do their usual homework.

On a personal level... No boxing for mental health and let me tell you I could have really used it! I also had to give up on my no jean rule. In fact I think I gave up all together judging by the stunned look of my neighbor when she caught a glimpse of me wearing faded jeans from the 80's, green crocs, a red t-shirt and a blue sweater with moth holes, my hair up in a bun and absolutely no make-up.

This week I was reminded that sometimes to achieve balance you need to focus on one primary task and just let go of the other stuff. I'm letting go and looking forward to finding a new focus for next week!
